Research group Epoch AI is inviting the world’s top mathematicians to try out its brutally challenging FrontierMath test — the same one that OpenAI’s new o3 model scored 25% on. The idea is to get a better snapshot of how well LLMs stand up to human competition when it comes to PhD-level problems. If even professional number crunchers can’t keep up with o3, it could lend credence to the idea that we’re approaching AGI.
